Behavioral Health Counseling Associate (Full-time)

JOB SUMMARY: Attends to the needs of guests using a recovery-oriented and person-centered approach. Provides care to guests with behavioral health conditions. Assists in providing care and treatment under the direction of the behavioral health professional team members. Care may consist of therapeutic interventions (individual/group education and supportive counsel), case management, family and provider meetings, discharge planning, and/or meal/personal care assistance for the guests. Maintains a safe and clean environment with a customer service focus and performs various direct care activities to maintain a therapeutic milieu.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education & Training: Must have knowledge or background of psychological theory and/or related behavioral health theory through education or previous work experience. Pursuing or completed associates or bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, counseling, or related field. Alternatively, has one (1) year experience in behavioral health field in lieu of education. Current BLS required.
Work Orientation & Experience: Previous experience in a similar role in a behavioral health setting is preferred. May require up to three (3) weeks of orientation with a preceptor.
Skills & Abilities: Ability to: a) read, write and comprehend behavioral health terminology; b) effectively convey verbal and written information; c) follow directions; d) perform simple mathematical calculations correctly; e) respond to emergency situations appropriately; f) adapt hours of availability to variable and changing needs of the program, including all shifts; g) effectively function as a member of a collaborative team; h) organize and manage time effectively, setting appropriate priorities; i) comply with OSHA standards; and j) understands and respects importance of guest privacy and confidentiality; k) develops and promotes a constructive/positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to maintain cooperation with and assist fellow health team members, physicians, intra and inter-departments, and organizational administration.
