Motivation and Career Engagement in the Time of COVID-19

To quote Bob Dylan, “the times they are a-changin’.”  We live in uneasy times as the pandemic forces us to transition to an unknown future. Interestingly, Abraham Maslow created a Motivational Theory for such a time as this. Right now, we live a somewhat duplicitous existence. When we are home, and especially if we work from home, we are at the Belonging level of Maslow’s Hierarchy, or higher. However, leaving home is an entirely different matter. Sadly, being around other people puts us at risk for developing a life-threatening disease. This quickly  sends us back to Maslow’s survival level. Now is the time to treat yourself tenderly. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself less as focused and productive as usual. Be kind and gentle to yourself, and others. Nothing is perfect, we may as well learn to accept that maxim. Pay attention to your career engagement but be forgiving if it is not at the level you would prefer. Attendees will learn the following after the webinar presentation:

1)  Recall Maslow’s Hierarchy and each motivational level

2)  Identify Maslow’s Hierarchy in the Workplace

3)  Learn about a recently developed model for Career Engagement
