MCA's mission is to promote public confidence, and trust in the counseling profession and to influence policies that affect professional counselors and the welfare of the diverse clients they serve. MCA supports professional counselors and counselors-in-training through a variety of professional development opportunities and support services.
In June, 2013, the Maryland Association for Counseling and Development changed its name to the Maryland Counseling Association, to better identify its relationship to the American Counseling Association.
In March 2020, the Maryland Counseling Association changed from a 501(c)6 to a 501(c)3 Non-Profit entity, incorporating as Maryland Counseling Association, Inc.
