Meet Our Emerging Leader Mykeia Garrett


Mykeia Garrett is a native Washingtonian with a passion for social justice and public service. Mykeia received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Norfolk State University (NSU); while participating in the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP). During this time, she worked for the Smithsonian Institution, Department of Commerce, and later the Department of Education (ED). Before completing her degree, she transitioned to the Student Career Experience Employment Program (SCEP) with ED. Upon earning her Masters in Organizational Development from Trinity University, Mykeia received a permanent federal government position in ED’s Office of Human Resources as a Human Resource Specialist working in Training & Development. Over the years she has gained valuable experience in employee engagement, workforce planning, employee development, contracts, budget, organizational development, training and marketing. Mykeia now works in Cyber Security within federal government managing a team of six. Mykeia currently has 16 years of federal service and brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and energy that can be utilized across government. She is now pursuing a Clinical   Mental Health Degree in Counseling at Liberty University as she satisfy her undying desire to work in underserved communities. In her personal life, Mykeia enjoys mentoring young girls/women, advocating for men mental health and is also the mom to a beautiful 9 year old daughter (Dallas). Mykeia has the best of both worlds when it comes to her career and personal life. There is truly never a dull moment; however, she looks forward to reading, relaxing, and vacationing. In 2022, Mykeia Garrett remains a millennium in the workplace that strives to build a robust portfolio and make an impact at different levels within any community or organization as she continues to serve others in and out of the workplace.


                  

Meet Our Emerging Leader
       Melanie Countee

Melanie Countee is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in Maryland and the District of Columbia and is certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors. Melanie has experience working with children, teens, and adults, though individual, couples, and family counseling with clinical interests in anxiety, depression, attachment wounds, and trauma. She also has several years of experience working with justice-involved populations through the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections and the Prince George’s County Mental Health and Adult Drug Courts. Melanie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Texas Southern University, a Masters Degree in Forensic and Legal Psychology from Marymount University, and a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Bowie State University. She is also a Usui Level II Reiki Practitioner and a 200-Hour Registered Yoga Teacher. Melanie considers herself to be a healer who assists her clients in finding mental, emotional, and spiritual balance through both traditional therapeutic interventions and energetic healing practices such as Yoga, Reiki, meditation, expressive arts, and more. In the future, Melanie hopes to bring these healing practices to justice involved settings in the DC Metropolitan area.                                                                                  


          


Meet Our Emerging Leader
        Halima Dargan


As a new Maryland resident, Dr. Halima Dargan is a licensed professional counselor in Maryland and Louisiana. She has her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, as well as a Masters & Bachelors from Xavier University of Louisiana. She is currently a staff clinician and research coordinator in American University’s Counseling Center. She is also an adjunct professor, approved clinical supervisor, and an active member of multiple professional counseling organizations. Her research and special interests include advocating for wellness and self-care amongst mental health professionals, de-stigmatizing mental health in black communities, and mentoring and supervising counselors in training & new counseling professionals.
