During this experiential session, participants will learn about the fundamentals of liberation psychology, and how indigenous practices can provide therapeutic tools for healing through liberation. Specifically, participants will learn about indigenous healing practices through activities, discussions, and exploration of their interests in these practices, and how to integrate these practices into their own clinical work.  

Learning objectives:

1) Participants will be able to list culturally-responsive ways to explore the integration of indigenous healing into their clinical practice.

2) Participants will be able to identify their interests in indigenous healing practices.

3) Participants will be able to identify at least two indigenous healing practices.

Presenters' bios:


Ana Guadalupe Reyes, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, CHST, is Reiki Master and Shamanic Practitioner. Ana intentionally integrates holistic approaches into their clinical practice to accompany clients through their healing process. As an engaged activist and scholar, Ana actively participates in community forums about immigration and advocacy efforts in support of racialized and marginalized communities.


Michael Ryan, LGPC, NCC is a high school counselor and therapist in Montgomery County, Maryland. He uses shamanic skills and healing in his personal life, and has performed ancestral healings, divinations, and dream interpretations for others. He was in the process of becoming a shamanic practitioner before the COVID-19 pandemic. He has completed the 9-month Soul Compass Path with Stephanie Seger, and is currently studying with Christina Pratt at the Last Mask Center.
